Without question I have, erm, eclectic(?) tastes especially concerning pipes but to my mind the LC shape is hard to beat. Classic and graceful, yet somehow very slightly funky, curves.
Now I have been eyeballing a Martelo and also really like some other artisan versions others have posted and would probably buy any of them before ponying up the entry fee for a Dunhill.
Then in a rare moment of serendipity today, while perusing SP's C&D sale, I browsed the estate pipe section before checking out.
And there it was. A Dirk Claessen (this will be my second pipe of his) sandblasted bent billiard. Sure the description didn't mention the LC shape but instead had plenty of flowery and poetic descriptors. But the moment I saw it brain said "ya know, that's reminiscent of the LC shape I've been coveting."
The curves aren't quite as exaggerated as the true version but for the price it set me back I'm not going to complain:

So there you have it. Now I have a shape I've been after without the cost of the shape I've been after. And I'll bet the quality is as good or better than a Dunhill.
That is why and/or how estates can be a beautiful thing.
