In the summer of 1974 I read how good and dry and delicious an EA Carey pipe was and I took about fifteen hard earned Highway 83 Marina dollars and had one sent to my grandmother’s address at Hermitage so as to eliminate any chance of my mother opening the mail.
I did not break my Carey with a hammer and return it for a refund.
I liked it so much I ordered another, exactly the same.
They don’t taste exactly the same. Both are good, dry smokers as Carey promised, but they have their own taste and one smokes sweet and the other tart. There’s not a lot of difference but I think there are differences.
In the half century since I’ve often experienced the same phenomenon, of identical pipes not smoking the same.
Why is that?
It might be the six inches between my ears that causes it, or variations in the briar.
Does this happen to you?
