Just curious. I’ve seen a lot of post by members talking about a preference to cigars in the summer. Like I said, just curious why.
I probably smoke more cigars in the warmer months I guess; main reason would be that I only smoke very expensive cigars, usually about 7" in length with about a 50 ring gauge. So when you are spending about $30 per cigar (and that's box price) and it takes you easily an hour to smoke one, the weather needs to be nice enough to enjoy it for that long.

I can't bring myself to drink hot cocoa in the summertime.
I'm not all that fond of ice cream in the winter.
Turkey, pecan pie, winter squashes, and most stews just give me such a Fall aesthetic that I don't usually eat them at any other time.
Being surrounded by my orchard, I don't crave fruits when they aren't in their seasons usually.

Deep red wines on a hot day do not appeal to me, nor does latakia... for me. A cigar in the cold air has less taste, less flavor, the air is thin and the smoke is thick.

This is just me. I am not in the spicy mood in the Fall or Spring.

But, on a sultry night, after a long day ion the sun, a cigar brings to me the drums of the Caribbean, the sweet sweat of beautiful women, rich leathery spicy, smoke along with a fruity concoction beverage, recovering from a sun burn and shower, my straw hat, white pants, bare feet, out by the swimming pool with the linger aromas of coconutty enhanced skin, the pheromones of beautiful women, the latin music, drums, and a spicy salsa rhythm... The Girl from Ipanema goes walking...

That's when I break into the humidor and grab a stick of the aromas of Habana. The dark oily smoke, the smells of human beings, sweet sweat, passion... That's a fucking cigar.

I know, I know, some guys all huddle up with other shitty smelly old men in rooms and smoke cigars, where the aromas of tractor grease, motorcycle fumes, and Goop hand cleaner is their thing. And, that's good for them. But, I don't care top be anywhere near that scene.

If someone doesn't have any sense of season, and people want to smoke what they want when they want... fine by me. I see no problem with that. But for me, a fresh peach pie and a glass of dry muscadine wine is best enjoyed in the early Fall. I do what appeals to me. puffy

I wear white pants in winter.
I was thinking this too, but...
I don't wear shorts in the winter.
I don't wear socks in the summer unless I am working outside.
I don't wear sweaters in the summer.
I don't run the AC in the winter, even though we have days where it reaches 80F sometimes.
I don't ever ever ever run the heat in the summer.
White pants can be worn any damn time I want.

And, I don't really care for pumpkin spice, ever. But, if you get in my truck in the summertime with a pumpkin spice drink that I can smell, I just might put you on the curb.

I also wear Spice Bomb cologne in the summer, and one I can't remember it's name that has juniper berries in the winter.

Hey, I'm just a seasonal guy. But, the damned Christmas lights can stay up all year. But, that's because I just don't want to climb a ladder unless it's 100% necessary. I just don't plug them in.

I'm from Ohio, and I totally mirror Cosmic's experience.............
Cigars just plain taste GREAT on a hot, sultry, midwestern evening. In the dead of winter, they just taste flat too me also...........
And not having to run a pipe cleaner down the cigar every 1/2 hour to get the gurgle out is a big plus for me. I never get a great pipe smoke in heavy, hot, humid weather..................

Some things are just logical, other's just a sign of listening to people who are quoting some rules that have no practical reasoning behind them. Kosher had a health reasons back in the day before refrigeration, people adhere to it now as a way to stay connected to their religion, but I'm not lumping that into my above statement but is interesting to think about.

It ain't the heat, it's the humidity. Pipes get warm and sticky. Cigar smoke cuts through July-August haze better than pipe smoke. It's just more assertive, sort of kicking humidity in the ass. And they taste and smell WAY better in the summertime than in winter, to my sensibilities. That's not to say I don't smoke both regardless of season, just that there is a tendency there. Reasons differ, that's mine.

As far as cigars in the summer goes... I don’t think I had even heard someone tell me this, nor state it as a rule. It’s just how my tastes go. YMMV
