I was putting together a rather large order (for me, at least) on P&C...I had a twenty percent discount from a backorder...and I swear, it seemed as if every other tobacco that I normally smoke was put on back order or happened to be out of stock. So I'm wondering, who's smoking this stuff, is it folks that are filling their cellar who have been smoking for some time, or is it newer consumers? I guess it's too much to ask for the big retailers out there to put out some stats, but it would be nice to know.

Same here. I've been trying to restock on Presbyterian blend for 4 months. That one is a staple for me. A couple other regulars for me also backordered or out of stock. Kind of frustrating, but on the other hand it is forcing me to try something new.

FDA panic shopping would be my guess, not to mention there are far more pipe smokers in the world than are on the forum. A sale comes up, and they start buying.

Is pipe smoking growing quickly at all? I know with the stigma of many states going "no-smoke" it would deter people from the act.

Probably not much growth, but there are a lot of us that picked up a pipe long before the internet came about.

Sunny Cornwall, UK.
If there is one thing that is likely to get a pipe smoker to give up is him not being able to have regular access to his favoured blends.
Every day I read of smokers complaining that their preferred blend is back ordered, out of stock etc. Why oh why do producers not up their game? It's not as though there is a worldwide shortage of tobacco or anything.
I agree with Duane inasmuch there is much panic buying going on but I don't think that is the whole answer. Blending houses are simply not keeping up with demand which totally baffles me.

Jay.
