The last thread has some nice traction, so I figured I'd begin another...

Ghengis Khan. I just finished listening to a book about his life and it was amazing.

He wasn’t the barbarian I was taught he was.

He modernized a postal system, pony express, agriculture and trade. Just to name a few.
Oh hell yeah. One of my favorite historical theories is that his ambition was primarily driven by keeping the various faction of Mongolians together and focused outside instead of fighting with each other. No idea if there is any truth to it but I like it and thinking about it. Also of course you know how many people are descendant from him specifically in our times.
