I too enjoyed a baggie of Tambolaka, the Indonesian air cured burley single-leaf, which I think i bought from 4Noggins under its old management. I was on a strong tobacco adventure at the time, though I approached those hefty blends with respect. That must have been around 2014.

4Noggins ceased selling it long before it changed hands, and I haven't seen it sold by them or anyone else since. It was extra strong and a real nicotine bomb. I'm not a nicotine junkie, but I enjoyed the shear strength of the leaf.

Now I enjoy Semois, the Belgium burley variant, thick and medium very dry cut, sold in a foil block, and C&D Bayou Night. Only slightly less strong are C&D Dark Burley, Big'n'Burley, Tuggle Hall, and Stratfordshire, all in bulk.. They aren't Tambo, but perhaps they will suffice.

In my case, I go the strong tobacco route only sometimes, to preserve that distinct experience. Mostly I smoke medium strong and a few mild blends, to enjoy that dimension of variety.

I remember someone telling me the person that went to Indonesia and supplied 4noggins with tambo seemingly fell off the face of the earth

I don't know much about the sourcing of Tambolaka, but I got the idea that it is a standard style of tobacco in rural Indonesia, so obtaining it would involve going way "back country." I guess the trader who originally brought it back could have met with trouble, or just decided to stay.

Someone who knew the territory, maybe an Indonesian national, might develop a trade in Tambo, but the middle man might increase its price. I don't remember it as being expensive, about like bulk tobacco in other brands.

The bureaucracy of exporting/importing tobacco, not to mention the necessary bribes in some cases, would make it a diplomatic international endeavor. I wonder if the original supply was smuggled in.

There was a guy living over there that was a member of a different forum that would ship over group orders from time to time. I got mine from him in one of the group buys. Should have bought more. I haven't seen him around on the forums, at least by the name he used then, since the early 20teens. I don't know, but always suspected that it ended up being more trouble than it was worth to him. He also sold unique pipes made from local seashells. I don't know where 4noggins sourced it, but it, and some of the indonesian cigars, started showing up there about the time "our guy" quit doing it.

We need a new guy. Anyone know of someone in Indonesia that might do a group buy? I'd be in for it...

Don't worry fella's, Aussies love to visit Bali, I'll take care of it.

Me mate's, uncle's, nephew's, cousin's neighbour knows this woman called 'Shapelle' - word is that she goes over quite a bit for body boarding competitions, reckons she will have room in her board bag for a bag or two.

I'll get em to ask her and sees what she reckons.

I think she was shipping something other than tobacco 🙄

Mate I’m not sure how things work across the ditch, but ain’t your mate his uncle’s nephew? So his cousin neighbour knows?

Or is this one of ‘em “asking for a friend” things, where the cousin in question is actually your mate, meaning your are his neighbour, or at least known to his neighbour?

Either way, I’m now confused and this song keeps popping to mind.
