So, last night I attend the Annual Pipe Night put on by Mayan Imports in Metairie, La. My time last night was just under 1 hour and not even close to my best efforts ( I won two years in a row with times of 1:23 and 1:27) but it was good enough for second place. They had five prize pipes for the five who lasted longest to chose from in order of finish. The first place finisher (1:10:13) picked a Rocky Patel Freehand. I really won when he made his pick and left an Ardor Venere on the table for me. Looking forward to breaking it in.

That is a great victory so to speak. I love the stem and I'm a sucker for virgin finished pipes.

Cosmic - He was a younger guy and it was his first Long Smoke competition. I'm assuming he just decided he didn't like the looks of the Ardor.
To be honest, I wasn't about to tell him to take the Ardor because it was a better pipe.

I'm definitely with Neal -- God only knows what the guy was thinking. I absolutely love classy lucite & stellar virgin finishes too. Well done!

Whoa, pappy, that's a gorgeous briar! Congratulations on your win. Sometimes what looks like a letdown is better than first place, certainly in this case. The Ardor just wasn't his style. Well, OKAY!

Second place is just the first loser.
Except when you win something like that!!!

Nice score!!!

Was there a participation trophy too?

Well that's technically a matter of opinion, Rocky Patel pipes are made by Nording and Nordings are good pipes. Maybe he really likes Nordings. But that's not my point. The smart thing to do, if he didn't like the Ardor, would have been to take the Ardor anyway, and sell it. You could get at least two or three Rocky Patel (depending on which RP line and which Ardor line it was) for the cost of that Ardor. Rocky Patel range from between 100 to 300 dollars. Ardor range typically between 200 and 600 dollars.
Edit to add: Oops! I almost forgot! Congrats and enjoy the heck out of it!
