I improperly stored a tin of Orlik Golden Sliced and it dried out to the point where it just shattered when I picked up a flake. My bad.
I broke up all of the flakes (no choice really) and put them in a mason jar. My plan was to try and bring this back to life. I recently bought a small amount of Boswell's Black Cherry Cavendish and it was was very, very moist. I chopped up some of the BBCC to make it finer and added a few pinches to the broken up Orlik Golden Sliced. I then added a orange rind to help with bringing some moisture back.
I let it sit a few days and pulled out the rind. The rind was dry and the flakes with the BBCC were moist to the point of being able to comfortably smoke!
I let it sit in the jar for a little over a month without touching it.
Just lit the first bowl up tonight and it is out of this world. The cherry is way in the background, but delightfully present and the Orlik Golden Sliced is really taking a liking to it. It also tastes more citrus-ish (maybe from the rind...maybe my imagination).
Regardless, it was an experiment that could not have worked out better and I had to share the outcome.
Cheers. t
