I have a MM corn cob that I bought last year and replaced it with a forever stem some months back. Although it still smokes grate, I was wondering how do you know when it's ran it course? It has a pretty good tar build up in the bowl, but nothing that is detrimental and again it smokes well.
Thanks fam! :P

I don't think the old cob will need to be replaced unless it is lost or damaged accidentally. :)

When the shank somehow soaks through and splits, and you take the shank from a cheap Chinese job and shove it in to replace it. Yea, still not done yet....

I think the only thing that would force you to put her down is a physical malfunction of the bowl (like a complete burn out). I also know people that have successfully and religiously smoked corncobs (the same corn cob) for 20+ years with no failure.

If you smoke only cobs, and have only a few, you might burn through them. If you have a lot of other pipes, and the

cobs dry out throughly after each smoke, they will last for many years, I think. You smoke them less, you dry them out.

My dad used to have cobs he'd smoke daily, and his self-destructed by having the bowls split between the rows of

kernels (the base of the kernels) that make up the bowl. The crack would start small, and after a week or two, it would

spread like a crack in a brick wall. I've always watched for that, but never saw any sign in my MM cobs.

Your right mso489!
I only have one, but I have other pipes that I smoke and I don't smoke my CC that often so it has plenty of time to dry. So I should be okay for a long time to come.

I had a cob fail last week. The stem was blocked and there was no draw at all. Upon examination there was a medico filter completely collapsed inside. I removed the filter but it isnt smoking the same now. I wasnt aware that cobs had filters.
