My guess is it's either just a cool name or something obscure reference to whoever was mayor of Sillem's hometown in 1814. Like, "Yeah this guy traveled all of Holstein and won every drinking contest while he was in office" or something.

...and, curious about when this flake was released. Mining the accrued wisdom of the board, the earliest mentions i can find here and at Tobacco Reviews are 2011. Anyone have any Mayor 1814 in their cellar with any dates prior?

I don;t think they did name it for this but more probably something from German history like the end of the Siege of Hamburg in 1814 ??? Isn't Sillem's originally founded in Hamborg ?? or at least the mall in 1816 ???
