We talk a lot about the importance of these, but that raises the question of how to do one well.
My ideal one would be:
  • In a comfortable, normal, non-pretentious area or shopping center;[/*]
  • Have a wide range of pipe, cigar, snuff, chew, cigarette and vape products;[/*]
  • Allow guests, customers and monthly subscribers to use its smoking lounge at different levels of service;[/*]
  • Grow tobacco on the roof for advertising.[/*]
What about yours?

Tree lined Downtown USA,

100+ yr old building, somewhat Victorialn looking with columns on either side of the portico entry w that has a heavy cast iron threshold plate.

Tall Windows, heavy oaken door with large, well worn, brass pull handles and proprietors name in filagree gold leaf lettering.

Also, on either side of the entry stands two green, copper lion heads. (Starting to really show this is a place for doods ;))

Through the door, you look up to see tall, 25ft tin lined ceiling with a few hanging fans. The walls a exposed red brick. The sun streams through the large windows lighting the front half of the shop.

As the eye draws down you notice several pictures of famous local landmarks and several shelves with classic literature that can be rented.

You walk further in on the hollow sounding century old wood floor catching whiffs of Latakia in the air. The shound is of gents discussing current events while acting as gents.

At the counter (shaped somewhat in the center picture the bar on cheers) there are handfuls of top shelf liquor and a few beers on tap.

On the other side of the mahogany island is the display of a large number of bulk tobacco and small coaster sized leather tobacco trays to take the baccy over to your preferred seat.
The interior is laid out like a cross open doors on the left and right with bricked arches. Several seating arrangements, from sofas with coffee tables, private booths to singular high wing back chairs with side table and reading lamp for a solitary afternoon with one of the books checked out a single malt and all situated in the fine let her seating.
If you choose the left of center you enter the main shop with copious amounts of tinned and loose baccy, large array of all makes of pipe from cobs to dunnies. And to make sure it is eoe, a generous cigar humidor. Also, several other many wares like Razors, colognes, leather goods and a plethora of pipe and cigar accessories.
One last area of the store, straight ahead to the game room. This is through a heavy set of multi pained double doors to help keep the sound in. In here you will find checkers and chess tables, a couple of nice billiard tables with a card table or too (no gambling) and of course off to one side a horseshoe of sofas with a tv to catch the game.
That's what I got

You should see the smokers lounge in this place. Top notch. It's an hour away from my house. I try to visit when I can.

I can't imagine a more ideal B&M than The Briary here in Bama. A converted old home, big porch with rocking chairs, inside large humidor, pipes and tins, and a tv lounge. The old house makes an ideal pipe home.

Mine would have all the Germaine workers in chains and forced to make their products. The production would increase by 90%.

Big library, fireplace, fluffy carpet with huge pillows in a corner and lazy boy couch.

And it's not too much to ask, a constant stream of snow outside the windows.

You pretty well nailed it for me, except for a couple of changes.
Otherwise, I'd just like to have a B&M in my province.

I'm not a fan of shopping centers either. They do have the advantage of having other stores that one can claim to be attending, and then duck into the smoking lounge.
I mention the other types of tobacco because they can keep a B&M financially healthy. Not all may necessarily be to my taste, especially vapes which I think are a foolish trend, but what sells is what subsidizes the good stuff.
I think of our local record shack, selling dozens of average releases so they can keep the undernoticed rarities available at normal prices.

Pipes by George in Raleigh, N.C.: unfinished plank floor, a dart board or two, a home-built humidor, a smoking table with sundry chairs, a good selection of tinned and bulk tobaccos and a can of Granger available by the ounce, a wall of pipes from a number of different nations, basket pipes some of which aren't bad, and 40 years of experience behind the counter. A pencil-written disclaimer on the front door about smoking being permitted inside. It's next door to a tattoo shop and a bicycle shop a few blocks from the state university campus. A mechanical cash register and an ancient tobacco scale. Unpretentious and one-of-a-kind.

Well said Sir, and I agree. With the mall, I would think rent would be too high on a decent sized floor area to make it viable, but that is a very area specific factor I guess.
There is one I used to frequent not far off I-75 north of 14 Mi, Big Beaver Road I think. I remember going there when it was a small place with just a few chairs and a long narrow walk-in. It expanded just before I left the area but don't remember the name of it. I do miss the place.

My local shop is far from ideal and I work there. The owners just don't have the drive or the knowledge to make it better. I do consider The Briary in AL to be about perfect since it's about the only real shop I've been to. It may be a bit small for large events, it seem to be perfect for everyday business.

Old downtown building, very classy- leather chairs, etc. No TVs but music playing - big band, blues, etc.
It would be dedicated to pipes and cigars, no vape or cigarette stuff. Lounge is available for use by some kind of club membership.

You guys should visit Boswell's. Two comfortable smoking areas. Dozens of great blends. It's on a tree lined street in Chambersburg off Route 30 (also called the Lincoln Highway). In additions there are cabinets full of new Boswell pipes. In addition to being a great craftsmen, JM, Gail and Danny are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. It is about as good of a B&M as I have ever been in.

Leather couches and chairs, side tables and coffee table, a fire place, no TV, and lots of naked women bringing me whiskey, cube cutting tobacco, and packing my pipe for me. I know, I know, but the question was for my ideal.
Your ideal B&M beats the shit out of what I was gonna say so I'm gonna change the beverage of choice and go with yours!! :puffy:
