Like most pipe related matters I realize this is a matter of opinion, but you get enough opinions bellowing in the same direction, it might cake into what one might call a consensus.

How are Ropp these days?

Have one of Ropp's horn stem line in a triangle shape.
It is SO good.

Good to know, been looking at a few the last couple days.

Regarding Castello, would love to have a tomato, and it seems like members opinion of the pipes is pretty much in line with one another, I guess a maker like Peterson is more polarizing in this regard.

I also recognize a distinct improvement of newer Castellos compared to older ones. They have definitely stepped up their staining and I do like the draw of current Castellos better.

Yes, Carlo Scotti was a complete idiot who couldn’t make a decent pipe. So was Franco Coppo in the first 20 years or so when he took over production.

Not very many have "gone down the tubes". We just lost Brebbia. Were there more? The title suggests that many are going out of business. Am I missing something? Should I be panicked?

Sorry for the confusion I meant in regards to quality. I was reading Foggymountain posts into the wee hours of the night while sipping on ripple and became paranoid over the issue.

Ha, I live in a perpetual state of confusion. No worries. It was probably just me that took it wrong. I haven't seen many about declining quality. What did Foggy say about it?

He said on multiple occasions that they don’t care about the quality of their pipes anymore, that some are filled, have stain inside the bowl, etc... I will probably get drunk tonight and reread the posts but doubt I’ll remember more than I do now.

Who? Was he talking about, Dunhills? I ask because I know he collected a ton of Dunnies.

Well I don’t want to possibly misquote him or make it the crux of the thread but yes I was talking about the legend known as Foggymountain and he also had opinions on pipes other than Dunhill.

Get one. I have a Collection shape 26 KKK and it is one of my absolute favorite pipes.
