Serious reply--contemplation is the essence of leisure. The word "leisure" has colloquially taken on the incorrect meaning of "relaxation." It used to necessarily include the idea of contemplation, which isn't an activity done in order to rest up for another day of work. It was truly enjoying something for no purpose outside of itself, like children playing. Studying philosophy for a purpose (like i'm going to impress women at the bar) makes it non-contemplative, at least as the idea of leisure was defined in antiquity. Pipe smoking is primarily done for itself, for no exterior purpose--this is what makes it truly leisurely. I'm just parroting the thoughts of this philosopher:
