The other day I was at a local B/M smoke shop. They had the best matches I have ever used. The employee did not know where the owner got them. What a dream match thou to use to light a pipe. They were rebranded with the store logo and info so unable to tell who makes them. So my question what is the best wood match you have found and where to get them?

My wife got me a little metal matchbox. The paper match boxes that fit it are from Japan and have no labeled brand, but come in plain white cardboard. I think they are often used for weddings or shops that have them printed with the name of the consumer. They are reliable and don't flare or fizzle, and best of all, they fit the matchbox perfectly as standard brand match boxes don't, so that's what I use. The matches are wood. I think these are easily available online.

Got to boxes of matches from Ireland when I ordered a Peterson. One of those long matches with what looks like pretty good wood. I'm waiting for windless day when my Zippo might give a problem. But that never happened so far. Besides, always have a Bic as a back up.

I think I found them. Compared to the diamond I have used for decades is a world of difference for pipe lighting.

Swedish Match, Three Stars Safety Matches,

found them on amazon
I think these are made by Swedish Match, who took over manufacturing of Swan Vesta sulfurless matches. I have a store of both the British and Swedish Swan Vesta matches, which were the classic pipe smokers' match.

Diamond matches work fine as well, though I believe that only the strike anywhere matches, which are not safety matches, are sulfurless.

In comparison what I found is bigger dia sticks, heads of match larger with a non-chemical smell or taste to them, and a much longer burn time before running the length of the match. The problem was not knowing who makes them since the box is rebranded. Really good match though I was very impressed with them.

I once got a pack of Davidoff matches that were very good but had a stupid price. I could own a nice lighter and use good fuel for the price of those matches.

I still with my IM Corona Pipemaster lighters with a the built in tamper and am quite happy. I bought Swan Vestas one time and thought they were dog shit. I thought Diamond were much better but stopped using them as well, I don't care for matches.

Diamond strike-on-box kitchen matches are what I use, but they occasionally fire off a little chunk that burns the crap out of my hand!
Boy, I have had that happen several times too. Got me in trouble a while back and burnt a hole in my wife's tablecloth. Kind of gets the evil glare now when I strike a match around her.

Just had one today where the head burned off and fell into the bowl, lol. I was able to spot it and tease it out...I don't think it would have tasted very good.
