I was bored and my herb grinder came in today so I took some of my cigarette tobacco to make a little bit of snuff. I took pics at each step.

notice the stems piled at the top of the clipboard (my ciggy tobacco is rather cheap stuff...)

Notice now at the top right there's some that just won't grind any finer, which is actually great because it made the perfect medium snuff, while the 'final' product is very fine.

And a closer look at the inner finished product from what small percentage of my ciggy tobacco is any good heh heh.

Loads of fun.
The tobacco is Red River, cheap as hell (and not too good for cigs, in fact this is the very last of that brand I have) -- but it turns out to have a very pleasant (if a bit bland) slightly toasty flavour.
Very fun.
I need a hobby or two that doesn't involve tobacco.

Looks interesting. I have been debating whether I should try that or not, since snuff availability has been taken a dive.

Lots of online retailers, you can even buy from toque directly from their website -- free shipping and U.S. prices are actually slightly cheaper. don't buy the bullets though, they have just a tiny amount of snuff in them the real point in getting them is that they can be refilled so only buy them for that purpose (filling from the tin so you have a teeny tiny pocket-appropriate delivery system) -- slightly more expensive are the metal bullets that come empty and are a bit larger, slightly cheaper are the plastic versions of the same.
But, all the same it can be fun to grind some down. Using a coffee grinder and either a sieve or just some hosiery is infinitely faster of course, but a little harder to control the fineness of the grind.
Also you can use any tobacco really, some won't taste good of course, but anything you dry out to near-total dryness will work, and you can go for a little moisture if you prefer -- you have total control when you make it yourself.
Plus, toque doesn't make an Irish Creme heh heh (I've set some out to dry so I can grind out some of it actually).
Oh yeah, mortar and pestle is another good and cheap way to go, though even more time consuming than the 'mill' I have. Furthermore you can get a -real- mill from a few places like this one or this cheaper model .
It's a pretty varied little esoteric hobby actually.
