My review from many years ago mentioned brighter fruit, including pineapple, on the nose. Now it's melded into darker fruits, including dried prune plums, and a noticeable similarity to a hayloft with some sweet, fermenting hay off in the corner. The flakes are still of the perfect humidity, they rub out quite easily, and after a couple of char lights, the fire took.
This is perhaps the richest, most flavorful straight Virginia I have experienced. Perhaps there are others that are similar, but I am not aware of them, since I do not seek out straight Virginias that often. The smoke is plentiful, no problem on the retrohale which means it's smooth as silk and refuses to bite.
Buttered toast, slightly sweet, rich chocolate, medium strength, hard to believe this is nothing but pure Virginia leaf. Quite consistent all the way down, very little moisture accumulates in the bowl, and actually remains relatively cool. My only regret is that I don't have 20 tins in the cellar! I've honestly been looking forward to opening this and am very happy right now.
