I justed started smoking a pipe. I use to smoke cigarettes. I bought this Perterson Shamrock pipe and ask the owner of the tobacco store whats the best selling tobacco in his store. I bought 3 oz and now my tounge hurts a little. hope this will stop soon, and just recently I signed up with this site and hope to get some info about pipe smoking.

Greetings Wade. Welcome aboard. First question is : What was the tobacco? Second is : Did the shop owner give you any pointers ?
For great information check out Bob's articles ,left sidebar near the bottom .

Irritated tongue is a normal side effect of the bad habits that try to carry over from cigarette smoking to pipe smoking. A bit of patience may be required here....but the effort is more than worth it.

Welcome to the forum. Go back to your local guy and ask a bunch more questions and compare the answers on here. There is likely alot more total experience on here. Also get a quick lesson from your buddy who has been a pipe smoker for 20 years . Oh yeah, post up some pics for us.

Welcome to the forum, Wade. I started smoking pipes over 35 years ago. We find a sense of fellowship among those who love their pipes that dates back thousands of years. This is a wonderful place to find the information (and the fellowship) that will start you on a life long quest.

Hi to all,

I am a pretty new pipe smoker. I had a pipe 30+ years ago but never enjoyed it enough to stick

with it. I believe the problem in hindsight was cheap tobacco. I really enjoy my pipes now. I had been

smoking a cigar or two a day. The pipe is much better IMO. I hope to pick up some good info on the

forum.
