Several years ago here in the UK, presumably at the taxpayers expense, the meteorological office bought a computer to predict long-term weather changes.
It cost them, or us 93 million pounds. They then said that from then on we would have perfect summers with hardly a cloud in the sky. Of course they got it totally wrong, what a waste of money.
My father used to listen to the forecast every morning and would prepare for for the exact opposite of what they said. His method was about 70% effective which meant that the Met Office were 70% ineffective.
The BBC have a shipping forecast every Sunday, but if I was a sailor I would prepare for the worst and expect the worst. No way I would put my life in the hands of that bunch of Jokers.

Sounds like your dad had a good system. At least meteorologists are consistent around the world as they’re pretty bad on this side of the pond as well, but at least we have a groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, that helps. With all of this technology, it seems that the Old Farmer’s Almanac might still be a little better… or simply flipping a coin.

Meteorology can't predict weather. It can only describe weather as it's happening. That's because they use a thermodynamic model to "predict," rather than an orgonomic model. For more on this, I recommend the book Cosmic Superimposition by Wilhelm Reich, the man who scientifically discovered orgone energy (the life force). That was 70 years ago, and not much has changed since then!

“When it is evening, you say, "It will be fair weather; for the sky is red." And in the morning, "It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening." You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

Red sky at night, sailors' delight.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.”

What's wrong with just looking out the window? Half of the time, I don't even have to look out. Arthritis will give ton of good old pain on my hand if there will be rain.

For years and years Brownsville TX, summer forecast was. Sunday through Saturday sunny, hot, heat index of 110+. 99 degrees with 10% chance rain.
They were actually extremely accurate ?
Lived there 20 years
I am sure that is the case that for down south. Austin TX for instance was hot most of the year, but it got highly unpredictable especially during the summer...

In my hydrology course in engineering school, we were given the quick run-through about how meteorology and forecasting work. There is a reasonable ability to predict the next 24 hours (something like 80 or 90%), but it drops precipitously after that. By day 10, the probably is in the single digits of percentage, which apparently is why many weather sources do not predict past 10 days (unless you're a witch writing the Farmer's Almanac).

Beyond 5 days the forecasts are just not reliable. It's just not possible to predict past that for either man or computer, since weather systems are chaotic.
