In my quest to obtain a meerschaum pipe like Colonel Mortimer.

I also become curious about the pipe smoked by Angel Eyes.

It is a WDC Wellington. I have made no great discovery here. I just learned for myself what has been posted many times right here in this forum. I decided that I would like one of these and obtained one quite easily.

But here is the part that is interesting to me. On my to-do list was to figure out what Stan Laurel was smoking in this 1930 film and get one for myself.

While looking for the smaller Wellington I saw that there was a "Jumbo" version. This is also no great discovery, but I suddenly realized that this was what Stan was smoking. I grabbed one of these too.

I like the fact that these classic characters in movies that we are still watching 50 or even 85 years later are not smoking some expensive or exotic purchase, but just a pipe that they piked up for a few dollars at the corner drugstore.

I can now take my Stan Laurel pipe smoking to a new level.

General consensus a while back was that the large pipe in this old pic was probably a Wellington:

Nice sleuthing! A WDC Wellington is still on my list of pipes to find. There are always several kicking around on Flea Bay, but I have yet to find one in the condition I want for the price I am willing to pay. As jguss says, millions went into the hands of pipe smokers, so I am sure my day will come.
