When I smoke the pipe, everything looks good at the beginning but when it goes past half bowl, I always hear some sound in the pipe and then I can feel water coming through the draw. Is the water coming from tobacco leaf or my saliva? It's bitten so I usually spit it out. Do you veteran guys have the same experience? Thanks in advance.

yea just take a pipe cleaner and run down the stem to the bowl and slow down your puffing.condensation.

That happens to me. Less often than it used to but certain pipes w/ sharp bends or new and wet tobacco's will still get that gurgle. And yes if any gets in your mouth it's darn gross so spit it out!
I am fairly sure that most of that moisture is from the tobacco/smoke. As it burns and turns to smoke, the moisture in the baccy turns to water vapor, and sometimes builds up. If you run a pipe cleaner in there it'll normally catch most of it. Also, depending on the shape of the pipe, you can just lightly bat the mouthpiece into your palm and the moisture will fall out. So if you don't mind dirty hands and have some ruggy pants to wipe on, that works too.
In the end, drying your tobacco a bit before smoking, as well as smoking more slowly will both help to avoid moisture build up.

Welcome to the Forums Dajibash. We're glad to have you aboard.
My Dad used to call it kick-back... and it is one of the most disgusting tastes on the planet.

I used to believe that it was saliva, and there has been a lot of discussion about it, but none recently.

I, as do those above believe it to be condensation.

And, as recommended above... a pipe cleaner down the stem will alleviate that issue.
The best way to avoid that problem is to simply slow down, and puff less vigorously.

The smoke will be cooler and more flavorful. IMHO

Try to dry the baccy some. A good way of doing this is to spread it out on some paper and put a desk lamp over it until it drys some, Reload and slow down on Your puffing. Welcome to the Forum.

Most people think that it is saliva that causes gurgling when it is most often caused by wet tobacco, if you smoke moist tobacco in a straight pipe with the pipe pointing upwards so that no saliva can travel up the stem the chances are you will still get gurgling.

I just run a pipe cleaner down the stem if I hear a gurgle. Or I just ignore it and let it run its course. I've never had it kick back into my mouth, though. I'm a drooler so I always assumed it was me slobbering into the stem or the dog using my pipe when I'm not around.

Thanks so much for your suggestion. I " stupidly" use microwave to dry up the tobacco. I empty the baccy from the original tin and spread them in a large plate. Covering a normal house plastic wrap and microwave it for 30 sec. When smell comes off, I turn off the microwave and take baccy out and repack it in a zip bag. Do you guys think this drys out? The tobacco is slightly scorched after processing. Of course I am discreet for not burning it ( I stand by the microwave ).
I just can't use lamp way to dry up the baccy for my girlfriend will kill me for I left smell in the room. :) Any other creative way?

So far the best method I have found to correct gurgle and moisture is just smoke slower. Not only puff less frequently, but when you do puff, just barely draw any air through the pipe at all... long and slow puffs.
That's hard when you are worried about keeping it lit, but it gets easier.
Keep at it. Have fun.

Yes I agree with you Philip. It's hard when I am concerning about keeping it lit while trying to smoke slowly.
Thanks Marc. Today I will try it. Hope it works and my GL won't find it !
