I've just returned to pipe smoking after a long break.
I've invested in two new pipes, a Carey Magic inch and a Mr Brog No 14 Church Warden, the latter arrived today. I enjoyed the first smoke, a 'half bowl' or so to help built a cake but by the end there was a definite 'guggle' on the draw. I've not had this with the Carey and the tobacco is the same.
I've seen a report of this on a 'Youtube' review so it seems to be common.
Is there a technique to prevent it, please?
Thank you.
Brian

I've definitely benefited from two additions to my smoking hobby:
1. Letting tobacco dry more. I would always forget to set flakes or whatever out- and would be smoking rather wet flakes.
2. Running a pipe cleaner down the pipe shank a few times during the smoke. I tend to salivate quite a bit when I smoke, and I've been clenching more. This results in gurgling and an inability to finish the bowl- the last part of the tobacco was always saturated from saliva and it didn't matter how much fire I applied, I couldn't get it relit, and would dump good tobacco.
After hearing Brian suggest it on the pipesmag radio show, I started just routinely running a pipe cleaner in the shank- maybe 4 or 5 times during the smoke, and certainly if I had gurgle.
This had made a pretty big difference for me- and I can smoke pipes to the bottom now.
Hang in there. Its been a journey for me- one I've come an extraordinarily long way on in just a few months.
Welcome to the forum.
Chris
