Though the blend is classified as Burley based and WCC describes it as having only a minor Latakia presence, the Latakia is the most prominent component to my taste. It is smoky, sweet, and with a bit of spiciness.

The first time I smoked this blend, I thought it was a “lat bomb.” I think that experience was due to the mix of cuts in the blend. The Latakia certainly had an easier time getting into my bowl than the rough cut Burley. Even after putting the tobacco through my blender, however, Latakia remains the star component.

The Burley makes itself known as a subdued mildly earthy nuttiness (think Brazil nut). The plum topping is, I think, intended more as a bridging flavor between the Burley and Latakia, and it works well. It sometimes comes through the smoke more strongly, and is much the same as the plum topping in Peterson (née Dunhill) Royal Yacht.

I smoke outdoors almost exclusively, so I can only guess at the room note. The moustache note points towards a tolerable-to-strong designation. The lingering aftertaste is not unpleasant, but also dominated by the Latakia.

2.5 stars out of four. My rating reflects the divergence between the description and my own experience. If you like a Latakia forward American Mixture, this is probably one you will enjoy.

I disagree about it being a “lat bomb” or even a “Latakia forward American mixture.” I also don’t think the topping is like Royal Yacht.

… we are however in agreement about this being a dud.
