Walmart has announced that it's employees will have to pay more to get healthcare through the company.Hardest hit will be tobacco users.Their premiums will go up fourty percent.Your guess is as good as mine as to how many of them will be able to afford it on what they are paid.

Yeah, I started a thread about this a while back... http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/one-step-closer
Every year we have to choose what plan we want, and what is available changes just about every year. If I stick with the plan closest to what I have now, my contribution to the premium is going up between $300 - $500 a year because I'm a tobacco user. Wal-mart lumps all tobacco use together, so even if you don't smoke nails, you pay the price. Wal-mart is heading down the road to becoming a tobacco free employer, and I can see the day that I will leave the company rather than let them control my life even when I'm not on the clock.

Lots of folks are covered who weren't before. The new plan doesn't, I believe, interfere with what an employer offers employees.

I kept the company health plan when I retired 4 years ago. It now costs us $22,000/year. I still have 5 years til Medicare and my wife has 7.
