This is for the adventurous. I wrote about “Coffee House Special” and had many good comments. I want to take you a little further.

I have been trying out C&D’s Espresso and RUSS’ Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans (both available at Pipes & Cigars). I enjoyed both. They have a good coffee (espresso) flavor in the background along with some chocolate. Both are mainly Black Cavendish and both with Vanilla and more. The two (2) are very good blends on their own. What would they be like together?

I blended these together (equal ratio of both – 4 oz of each). I tried the combined blend and it is great. As good as, if not better than the two alone.

Now I want to envision myself in the kitchen smelling a pot of fresh roasted coffee brewing and at the same time enjoying this great new blend.

I ordered 2 ml of Coffee Bean Oil from Eden Botanical (very inexpensive). Be aware that Coffee Bean Oil has caffeine.

I placed the 8 oz. Of the new blend in a ‘box’, so that I could spread it out and be able to “top” all of the tobacco. Then I applied a “topping” of “Coffee Bean Oil”. Not too heavy, but enough to bring out the fresh roasted coffee bean smell;

[copied from Tobacco University which they copied from page 84 of The Tobacconist Handbook;
Toppings are actually what is more associated with the stereotypical sweet flavor or aroma of an "aromatic" pipe tobacco blend. For example, a Cherry Tobacco will have a cherry topping. The topping is applied last, at the very end of the processing just before the tobacco goes into the tin or pouch.
]

I use 1 ml of Coffee Bean Oil diluted in 1 or 2 ml warm distilled water (all placed in a 3 ml spray bottle). I spray this over the blend. Allowing it a few hours to dry out. Then I place the 8 oz with the “topping” in an airtight canister.

The next morning, I load my pipe, grab my cup of coffee, and sit back to enjoy my first pipe of the day. Not only am I drinking my first coffee, but I am smoking my first coffee.

As I loaded my pipe, I could smell the tobacco blend along with ‘fresh roasted coffee’. When I lit the pipe, the room note was the tobacco blend (which is very appealing) with the smell of fresh roasted coffee (seems like it is brewing in front of me).

I take a long slow draw and savor the tastes. The tastes of the tobacco blends and the taste of coffee (espresso) with chocolate. Of course my mouth also absorbs some of the caffeine in the coffee bean oil. So I get a double morning boost.

How adventurous are you? Are you ready to make your own blend?

Tell me about the blends you have made or are making.

Edwin, that sounds very nice! I have never heard of coffee bean oil.

Think I will go have a coffee now...
Mike,

Years ago, I made 'natural products' and perfumes and men's fragrances (before I became handicapped) that's where I learned about 'coffee bean oil'. I used to mix it with 'sweet tobacco' oil on a base of vetiver and oud to make a men's fragrance. That is how I know the coffee bean oil combines well with tobacco.
Try it, you might enjoy the aroma.

I wish I had the guts to try stuff like this. Sounds like a good blend you made yourself there!
Gervais,
It is easy. Get an idea start "small" (1 or 2 oz at a time - so as not to invest much and if you don't like it you won't be sad to throw it way, but you will have learn much from it)
I have learned more from my failures than my successes. My successes only boosted my ego, but my failures caused me to dig deeper and learn more and understand why I failed.
Have a great day and a wonderful smoke

What a fun read. I’m interested in hearing about more of your experiments. I’ve mixed tobaccos but never thought to add my own topping. A coffee oil based aftershave sounds good, too.

Interesting...sounds good. I checked out Coffee Bean Oil on Eden's website and found this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview
Coffee Bean Oil

Our Coffee Bean Oil is a highly aromatic vegetal oil with a strong, rich aroma of dark roasted coffee. It is fatty acid-rich, with substantial percentages of Linoleic, Palmitic, and Oleic acids, making it a beneficial addition to mature skin care formulations. Coffee Bean Oil also contains a small amount of caffeine, an alkaloid with centrally stimulating effects, making it desirable for inclusion in energizing massage oils.1 However, if you are highly sensitive to, or have an allergy to coffee, we recommend avoiding use of this oil.

Traditional and sacred uses of Coffea arabica include anointments with aphrodisiac effects, especially when paired with Cardamom and Honey (or Beeswax).2 It is considered a safe, nontoxic and non-irritating oil for use in cosmetics and skin care formulations; it could also be used as part of the carrier for oil-based natural perfumes.

In culture, tradition, psychology and daily ritual, this familiar, roasty aroma is very personal - we ingest it, get caffeinated, become one with our cup. Here is a way to bring your favorite morning brew with you, wherever you wander.

I highlighted (in blue) an interesting little tidbit. If you don't want to smoke your coffee bean tobacco, you can always rub it on your mate. ?

On a recent order, I picked up a few 1 ounce sampler packs of C&D's Yorktown, Bayou Night and Poplar Camp. None of these blends really struck a chord with me and as such, were left sitting around for a couple of weeks. On a whim, I decided to just throw them all together in one bag and see what I came up with. To my surprise, the resulting blend was smooth and flavorful and I smoked it up rather quickly. It provided a nice smooth sweetness from the VA's, the perique, while very much present, was toned down dramatically from the level found in Bayou night, and there was just a hint of latakia smokiness. I enjoyed the blend so much that I may jar up a pound of it for future use.

blackpowderpiper,

As I said to gervais and as I posted, get an idea, start small and be creative.
I started this experiment with a 'small' portion of "espresso" tobacco and "Russ' Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans", I smoke each one, though not overly excited about either, but I did enjoy them.
I thought, perhaps combined together, they might be a very good morning pipe. So I combined them well. Allowed them to sit overnight. In the morning I loaded a bowl and the combined blend was great (I thought they were better combined than the two individually).
I started thinking, they have the "coffee or espresso essence" perhaps the smell of 'fresh roasted coffee beans' would enhance the enjoyment.
Sometimes we find by mistake what will be great.

That's awesome. I will probably avoid this one as i have become sensitive to caffeine. I have one cup of coffee most mornings and maybe a diet Dr. Pepper or two in the afternoon. Anything more than that gets me a little too wired. Strange considering the amount of stimulants I used to pump into my body.

One of my great pleasures is having a cup of coffee and a nice big bowl of strong tobacco each morning. Perfect way to start a day!

I prefer natural breasts and tobacco. Coffee in the morning goes well with both although I'd generally prefer tobacco in the morning, breasts sometime thereafter. At my age though, you never look a gift horse in the mouth. Take it when you can get it.
