This is for the adventurous. I wrote about “Coffee House Special” and had many good comments. I want to take you a little further.
I have been trying out C&D’s Espresso and RUSS’ Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans (both available at Pipes & Cigars). I enjoyed both. They have a good coffee (espresso) flavor in the background along with some chocolate. Both are mainly Black Cavendish and both with Vanilla and more. The two (2) are very good blends on their own. What would they be like together?
I blended these together (equal ratio of both – 4 oz of each). I tried the combined blend and it is great. As good as, if not better than the two alone.
Now I want to envision myself in the kitchen smelling a pot of fresh roasted coffee brewing and at the same time enjoying this great new blend.
I ordered 2 ml of Coffee Bean Oil from Eden Botanical (very inexpensive). Be aware that Coffee Bean Oil has caffeine.
I placed the 8 oz. Of the new blend in a ‘box’, so that I could spread it out and be able to “top” all of the tobacco. Then I applied a “topping” of “Coffee Bean Oil”. Not too heavy, but enough to bring out the fresh roasted coffee bean smell;
[copied from Tobacco University which they copied from page 84 of The Tobacconist Handbook;
Toppings are actually what is more associated with the stereotypical sweet flavor or aroma of an "aromatic" pipe tobacco blend. For example, a Cherry Tobacco will have a cherry topping. The topping is applied last, at the very end of the processing just before the tobacco goes into the tin or pouch.]
I use 1 ml of Coffee Bean Oil diluted in 1 or 2 ml warm distilled water (all placed in a 3 ml spray bottle). I spray this over the blend. Allowing it a few hours to dry out. Then I place the 8 oz with the “topping” in an airtight canister.
The next morning, I load my pipe, grab my cup of coffee, and sit back to enjoy my first pipe of the day. Not only am I drinking my first coffee, but I am smoking my first coffee.
As I loaded my pipe, I could smell the tobacco blend along with ‘fresh roasted coffee’. When I lit the pipe, the room note was the tobacco blend (which is very appealing) with the smell of fresh roasted coffee (seems like it is brewing in front of me).
I take a long slow draw and savor the tastes. The tastes of the tobacco blends and the taste of coffee (espresso) with chocolate. Of course my mouth also absorbs some of the caffeine in the coffee bean oil. So I get a double morning boost.
How adventurous are you? Are you ready to make your own blend?
Tell me about the blends you have made or are making.
Edwin
