Putting this up to see what you all think about it. I'm not sure what the 1914 mark means yet, and the photos don't show enough to date the pipe do they? I wonder what the original stem would have looked like. I'm picturing the pipe after George has worked his magic on it. Does anyone think this is a bad idea?

The stem looks like a replacement, but it could just be upside down. Otherwise, all depends on the selling price and the cost of restoration.

I'm going to pass. Too many things you can't see in the pics. Also not a favorite shape.

Early 1920s era. The wood looks OK except that the color isn't right. Here is one from the same era I restored a while back, all original and gorgeous patina on it!

I think the number 12 indicates 1932. from what I can see, The 1914 reference has to do with a patent date. It's probably going to go for decent $$. I don't like those shorty stems.

Sold! To me, the markings seemed pretty clear. PAT. CANADA 1914 over "INNER TUBE" over PAT No. 5861/12. On the other side HW or HWo and DUNHILL over LONDON. There is no date code, and from my reading this afternoon, 1920-21 or so. The stem is not, I would say, original. A picture of the EC shape can be found here,

I agree, that is not the original stem. Getting a good replacement stem is going to take some coin ($100+?) Making a replacement stem (proper) is more time consuming than the factory stem required. Knowing that, I wouldn't have paid $160 for it either.
