There's always a lot of talk about how first responders and military folks are heroes. Meaning no disrespect to them, I would like to offer a small tribute to a woman who was not in a profession that required her to go into danger, but died saving others.
Victoria Soto, a 27 year old first grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary, was the teacher in the room next door to where the shooting took place. She hid her students. When the killer came in, looking for more victims, she told him they were in the gym. He shot and killed her, and left the room.
That is a hero. May she rest in peace.
