I just had to cut a bowl of 1Q short because it was extremely wet and goopy. I've had it get damp before, but nothing like this. I had much difficulty keeping it lit, but not too hot. What could be the reason? Was I smoking to fast? 1Q was dry, but it was a bit cool (AC at 65) then I took the jar outside to 85F) By the time I gave up, I dumped the dottle, and could literally pour the moisture out of the bowl.

So you took 65 degree 1-Q outside to 85 degree temps? Sounds like the colder 1-Q caused the warmer air to condense moisture onto it. Like when you take a cold beer out of the fridge and it gets condensation you just did that with your tobacco!

The druid has it right. Better results you leave damp tobacco outside till it dries down! And some batches come from the factory damper than others of the same blend.

Tinner: I'm not. I'm a tropics guy. But the rest of the guys on duty with me are polar bears... hence the 65...

Bingo.
Wow ... At 85F, I haven't turned the AC on yet.

I don't think temperature change has anything to do with it. My house is at 80F right now because outside is 110F in the afternoon. Many times I've taken 1Q from the house at 80F outside to 110F to have a bowl while sitting on the steps of the pool and haven't had a problem with it. Hasn't gotten sopping wet or anything. Just normal 1Q goodness.
I''be noticed 1Q can get wet and goopy if I pack it too tight and puff too frequently on it. That'd be my guess as to the reason for it being wet.

My thoughts were based on humid locations. Here it was 96F and a dew point in the 70s so condensation is a major issue. If your in a location of high heat but low humidity I can see where lordofthepiperings is coming from.

I don't think that's quite the same situation, though.

In my experience, a drink sitting in an 80 degree environment won't gather condensation even if it's taken into a much hotter environment.
Cut the temperature down to 60something degrees, and drinks will have condensation when taken outside, even if it's only in the 80s.
I think it could be the temperature difference, as 65 is pretty darn cold. I've actually had it happen in the jar before--taken a cold mason jar of tobacco out to my porch and then had it visibly gather condensation in the heat--so it's certainly possible in my experience.

You're all wrong.
travelergypsy, smoke that 1Q only if the moisture of the air outside is the square root of 62 x's the relative humidity, but only if there is a clear sky, no clouds, and the wind is below 5 mph. Also, the barometric pressure should be 1013.25 or greater. Unless you live in the western time zone and it's before sunset. If so, forget everything I just wrote, and smoke something else.
