Vauen and other 9mm pipes

Anyone smoke these? I think I saw that bhpdrew does. I'm wondering if the filter is essential or not; also curious what the general opinions are.

The filter is not essential. First thing I did was throw the filter in the rubbish bin. I like the 3 I have. They are in my current rotation. They all smoke dry and all the way to the bottom.
