Hey pipers , I’m looking for a solid Virginia to throw into my rotation. So first I was thinking to mention the lock ins I already have for the different family’s I regularly smoke.

English , EMP, Father Dempse’s, SPC wild man, Sutlif Krumble Cake #1. Presypatirian. Bayou Nights.

Burley, Five Bros,Macbarren bold dark fired, tabac de la semois ( all of them)

I have smoked and enjoyed quite a few Va’s and Vapors and kitchen sinks labeled in the virginia family, keepers would be , Kendal Dark , 3 nuns,Exclusive, and dreams of Kadath , in that order.

rejected VA’s ( at least for a daily lock in) would be Royal Yacht, Sutlif Red, Macbarren dark twist,Pegasus, Orions Arrow.

So far the only VA I crave and regret leaving at the office is the Kendal Dark ( I think it’s that Malawi in there that I crave)

I know this is a huge thread but anybody got any ideas based on my likes and dislike what VA/ VA blends I might try?
Id like to get a few go too‘s to begin stockpiling for the tobacalypse

I love you more than a friend …

I'm a burley guy first of all but enjoy Virginias on a regular basis for variety. Lately I've been enjoying Squadron Leader a lot. Irish Twist X rope is good too, though I have to work on its cut to get the ember right. My all time favorite Virginia was McC's Dark Star, now discontinued, but I hand grated it to get it to burn right. Then it was sublime.

Sutliff 507 is a solid no nonsense VA flake. Gets even better with a little age.

I quite like PS Luxury Twist and Navy Flake. Both solid and cellar worthy. Not a fan of the Bullseye Flake but many love it.

G&H Best Brown Flake unscented. Incredible stuff that’s sadly harder to find now.

That’s a place to start anyway. Good luck.

Yes that unscented brown flake sounds right and I have yet to try a true Navy , so I’ll get on that , just smoked some Bjou was definitely getting some flavor, I rather like the sutlif red but it’s wet and a little thin on the nic. I’ll check out the 507 there is some quality leaf with Sutlif I adore the english#1, cheers

By Sutliff red, did you mean the 515 or the Red Ribbon? They are very different.

I really like the Sutliff Virginia Slices, but it has a slight fruit topping, so if you don't like the Pegasus (which has a darker fruit topping) then you might not like the Slices.

The MB Dark Twist has DFK. There was another Sutliff 515 series which was darker, but I can't find anyone who carries it.

I meant the crumble cake tin VA red , been noticing the VA blends I like have DFK in the mix. I like the Kendal Dark and some ropes and flakes I’ve been hearing about I want that full flavor…Thanks for the tip on Pegasus I was very put off by the flavor…

You might want to read through the Kendal Dark reviews, people might mention blends it reminds them of or others they like in the same style:
