Although I do not know the work that well of the pipe makers that are passing away, I would like to know if there are any younger ones out there that can fill in the void that might be created in the near future?

There are a lot of very talented carvers around. Some just waiting to be "discovered" and, some who are fairly well known. The design element is probably the most difficult thing.

Theres lots of great pipemakers around.

I think the biggest thing is that almost all of them owe something to the old guard that set many of the standards that pipemakers live up to today.

Just a few names (from the modern American school, mostly) that come to mind,

in no particular order (apologies to a few that I've almost certainly left out...)

If you search a name on the "Search On Site" box beneath the Member Login box,

in the left hand column, you will may find some examples of their work.

There are a lot of good carvers on that list and many more as a google search will show you. I don't think we will have a void in the future as long as we keep buying hand made pipes.

Great list there Cortez !

You can also go over to the pipe makers forum, and just read some posts there. Most of the pipemakers there have links to their websites. Theres some really talented guys, and a lot of them dont have the fame (and pricetag) of the more renowned makers.

I was going to mention him Cortez, glad that you remembered! Hopefully when I'm settled in Vancouver I can commission something from him. http://www.downiepipes.com/bulldog2.html that is the nicest bulldog I have ever seen!

Maybe Tim George justs posts his most stunning pipes, (I would), but all of them

have such magnificent grain and staining. And his freehands are truly masterful.

Tim George, unlike "Gunny Highway" in Heartbreak Ridge... He's not High Speed, but definitely looooow drag.
He only makes pipes when he has the time... It is not his primary income, but he makes a superb pipe.

Some of his pipes don't get posted because they are special orders. (I should say instead made to the customer's specs.)
