In my march toward a new direction and with funding from pipe sales, I picked up this cased set from 1921.

Comoy is certainly an interesting company. I know they have more seconds lines than a polygamist has cousins and I know they’ve made pipes for pipe shops and I used to own a pipe that Comoy was contracted to make by an inventor.

He is a cased set of Comoy Hallmarked pipes made for a Parlor in San Francisco. They are unsmoked and in unbelievable condition. The case is even in remarkable shape.

Always makes me wonder how these survivors survived. How many places the trunk or box they were put in traveled.

Here’s the pipes

Phenomenal in every way, congrats! To find one pipe of that quality, in that gorgeous shape, in that pristine condition, and from that era is amazing enough... but two? Matched and cased? Mind boggling. I’m glad you are smoking them, as my first pipe mentor told me: that’s all they are good for.

They will absolutely be smoked
I'll pass along a suggestion that comes directly from Comoy, from a catalog of the period that these pipes were made. They recommend that you slightly moisten the chamber walls with water prior to packing for the first couple of smokes to avoid charring the wood. Given that these are a century old and the briar will be quite dry, might be helpful to try that suggestion.

Jesse, absolutely thank you for that. That would’ve be great to hear/read a couple years ago when I had an unsmoked Kaywoodie, that when lit about two minutes later, an audible crack opened on the bowl.

So I’ve learned that lesson the hard way. Luckily that Kaywoodie wasn’t a unicorn pipe. I’ve actually replaced. Lol.

BUT hearing your advice, wisdom and opinion is always more than welcome.

Thank you!!
