I’ve returned to the pipe after a hiatus, and I came across an unlabelled mason jar with an unidentifiable flake. There’s no way to determine what this is. I’ve bought too many tins over the years and can’t recall everything I’ve sampled.

Perhaps some of you might be able to identify some components simply by looking at a few photos? It appears not to be a straight Virginia. Smells very plummy/figgy. I’m assuming perique?

I’m eager to try it, but I want to avoid any red Virginias.

Why the avoidance of red Virginia tobacco- reaction?
I don’t know the exact percentage, but a large majority of flake tobacco has Virginia in it. There are some burley centric plugs and flakes out there. This does not look like a burly only flake/blend. I would guess this has red Virginia in it.

Yep. Consistently shocks my tongue, as tasty as they are. And while this mystery flake may have some red, I’m fairly certain I purchased it in 2017, at which time I was beginning to steer away from reds.

Well, it’s not a lot of baccy. If reds irritate your tongue, you could trade it or give it to a fellow pipe smoker instead of risk it?
Any more mystery baccy jars ?
