My girlfriend just found four pipes in her grandparents house and gave them to me.

two are Mastercraft bent Billiard and one a Indian style souvenir pipe. the fourth is a Pipe by J. Powell. I have tried looking him up but can not find any thing on him the pipe has a unique shap almost like a tall stove pipe with the top cut at a upward angle and it narrows towards the bottom. It has a copyright of 1967 and is signed J. Powell 77.

If any body knows of this pipe maker any info would be helpful. Thank you.

Yes it smokes well. I took some cleaning first it was full of dust and old tobacco had to have been in the pipe at least 20 years. The bowl is about an inch and a half deep it took me about 2 hours or so to smoke.

Warm the tenon up with a candle, lighter heat gun or whatever to soften it. BE CAREFUL not to burn it. Burning rubber stinks! Press STRAIGHT down on a hard surface like a table to swell the tenon. Let cool and try it. If too tight GENTLY sand with high grit wet or dry paper.

Before you get too carried away with modifying the pipe, give it a chance to tighten up on it's own. There's a very good chance that this pipe hasm't been smoked in years, that often causes the shank to loosen. Try smoking it 5 or 6 times before doing anything to it. Vintage pipes like this one will usually tighten up on their own if you give them a chance.
