I started high school in 1957.The world was different back in those days. When I asked to take a typing class I was told that boys had no need to learn to type because only girls typed.Because of that I still type with one finger.I'm faster at it though than one might think.I'm typing on a keyboard now that is so old some of the letters have worn off the keys.To my surprise I know which keys they are even without letters.I have a new keyboard in the box.I just hate to give this one up as long as it still works.I think that's probably another thing about getting old.I'm slow to accept change.I'm still smoking some of the blends I started with in what almost seems like a life time ago.I hope it's easier and faster for you to type than it is for me.

First of all nice hat Dave! Puffy I am young and have had typing classes. I still type very slow! I don't know how people can type so quick. If I am luck I get abut 35 words a minute.

I feel like I type so slow now compared to what I was capable of back when I was in school. My years of working at Dell made me pretty proficient at keeping up as well otherwise you'd get burried in all the logging that had to be done on every task we did.
I did some timed tests I found online just for fun a few weeks ago and I average around 85 words per min now. I estimate I was well over 110-20 at one point. I guess I'm getting lazy

Typing has been second nature since I was in junior high but it is never too late to learn, Puffy.
I'm sure there are still typing programs out there that you can get. I learned from "Typing Tutor" back in the day.
I am fairly rusty now because I have no reason to type papers or anything with speed or accuracy. I just did a few timed tests and 80 words per minute was my average.
That's good enough for my daily needs, and if I was back at it for any length of time I'm sure it'd be up over 100 once again. It's just one of those things where finger dexterity slips after awhile if you don't keep at it.
No margin for error on the real typewriters! I used to fool around on one my dad had when I was growing up. It'd be nice to have one but it'd be for show more than anything. And for typing in case the power goes out! ;)

Speed and accuracy (for me) is highly variable. Sometimes, I push 100 wpm, other days 40. If I'm transcribing, I fly. If I'm thinking out my responses to threads... the low end.

:puffy:
I suppose it's time for an old and worn out male-sexist-pig-joke.
Most secretaries can't type... They're just hunt-n-peckers.
Sorry ladies.

I took a keyboard class in college, just for my own sake and to get a bit faster. I'm no pro, about 25-30 words a minute
It's never too late to learn something

I have a $130 keyboard and $80 mouse :)
I was a competition gamer and still pretty intense on my keys...
My keyboard is a mechanical keyboard, so the buttons are like the older type tall buttons that click when they bottom out so you have a audible cue when to let it go, it helps when speeding up actions per minute on games...
I average most of the time about 110-140 words per minute... and with the clicks its like a machine gun in the apartment...
