I like to mess with the stems of my pipes. If it gurgles, funnel the tenon; wont pass a cleaner, open the slot. Thank kind of thing. I wouldn't want to do this on original stem of many pipes. But I see quite often that the British made pipes like Charatan, Dunhill, Sasieni and Barling can be had with a replacement stem at a small fraction of one with an original. That looks like a deal to me if I could be even half way sure the stem is similar to the original. But I don't have any of these pipes with original stems to know what nuances the stems have, so I could attempt to replicate.
Any suggestions on defining features of stems from these makers?
