I have been smoking this pipe and enjoying it. However, curiously the mouthpiece opening is too narrow to accept a pipe cleaner--very strange. The smoking quality if fine.
It also does not appear to accept a filter, which would obviously be a solution to the gurgling.
I do not think that this pipe is imperfect, though I may be. Any advice?

Most suppliers have tapered or extra fine cleaners. That my be a solution to one problem. The filter to me is not a gurgle cure but another thing to throw away if a pipe comes with one.

Welcome to the forums rsilverman7! Is this the pipe?

As for the gurgling, I'd try drying the tobacco a bit (or a lot). You might find an improvement in the flavor too.

.

I have this pet theory: Large diameter chambers are more difficult to keep lit across their entire surface area.

This results in more aggressive puffing, and also a greater volume of air being drawn in with each puff.

Hot air has the capacity to hold a lot of moisture; and more of it promotes condensation when it passes

through the relatively cool pipe -- especially so if the wood is thick.
I'm not really offering a solution, but you may be able to find a way to adjust your smoking technique

or tobacco choices to accomodate these conditions. Provided, that is, you buy this spiel of mine.
(ps. I'm not a physicist or expert in thermodynamics, but the city I live in has a university that employs such people.)

Welcome to the forum Bob, you could always send the pipe to a pipe master who could drill the entire passageway and open up the draw, and permit a cleaner to run through it.
