Trout are Starting to Run!

Went for a walk this morning down by the beautiful Grand River, watching the rapids, the downstream side of bridge pililgs and along the shoreline I could see trout flipping about. As I slowly walked along the banks with my pipe and my coffee I could see fairly large trout taking cover from the fast water in the weeds and behind rocks close to shore. The water is still pretty high from all the runoff but it should be ready by next weekend for opening day. The fish are tired from their long journey in from the lake and are pretty listless. Some of them didn't even move when others were spooked by me walking along the shore.
I pulled a 12.5lb rainbow trout up from behind the casino in downtown Brantford last spring. The following weekend I was up near the Nith River where it empties into the Grand and pulled up a 19lb, 25" Brown Trout. I plan to spend as much time on the water this season as I can!!
I for one cannot wait to get out on the river for some serenity and good fishing!
Anyone else on here hunt or fish?

Going to miss the opener this year due to a trip to Ottawa. Bummer. The steelies have been grouping for the last couple weeks at the mouths here east of Toronto. I've seen a fair number of them beginning their stretch up-stream for spawning.
Given the late ice-out in Algonquin I may head north in a couple weeks for some early brookie fishing before they go deep.

I haven't made it up that way as of yet but I hear Bronte is seeing groupings and a few runners further up stream. I have been tying flys, sharpening hooks, re-stringing reels making sure everything is good. Tackle vest and tackle boxes have been inventoried and been restocked with 'loosable' tackle items (snelled hooks, split shots, small floats and bubble floats, etc.) I picked up a nice small waterproof backpack for fishing. It will hold a few items such as F/A kit, snacks, a couple pipes and some tobacco, what I found cool was the slot in the back for my camel-pak to hide away and keep my drink cool. Usually iced tea is taken in the bush or on the river with me so I don't care if it gets warm but a cool drink is better than a warm one lol.

Getting ready to fly fish for some Brown Trout here in mid coast Maine. The water is still running pretty high and probably too cold for the fish to be moving about for a while, but the cabin fever has me venturing outside for the nice spring warmth. Black Fly season will be following soon, and they are known as Defenders of the Wilderness up here. :lol:
