Hi guys,
I was wondering if there were any special tricks out there for fully cleaning the mouth pieces on my pipes. I usually will run hot hot water through them, as I learned my lesson that rubbing alcohol was not a good choice.

Hi
different. When I buy a new pipe I desinfect the mouthpiece with a desinfection-pad. These usually come in packs of 100 pieces and can be bought in a drug store (it is called in English, i believe).
When I buy an Estate it's a whole different manner and a much longer labour as to me it is important that an used mouthpiece is absolutely clean. here I use painter soap, desinfection pads and so on. and of course after that it's polishing it.

Clean up for the Vulcanite, Acrylic, Ebonite, Bakelite and Amberoid bits

on my Pipes is done with a shank brush, Everclear and Pipe cleaners. I don't

have a buffer, but a good bit polish will produce excellent results. For

the light colored bits that show a smoke stain in the bit's draft, using

the bit polish inside the bit has worked well for me. With Amber, it's not

advisable to use a shank brush, but the Everclear, Pipe cleaners and bit polish

will work well.

The yuckie white/amber plaque that forms near to, and in, the groove at the stem's button

can usually be brushed or scraped out manually. But this hardened residue also forms within

the mouth of the button. I've had good luck using lemon juice to loosen and dissolve it

-- either by immersing the whole stem, or packing a lemon juice soaked pipe cleaner in

the stem and letting it soak for an hour or so.
(Also, when it comes to cleaning the rim of your bowls, lemon juice is an effective,

and less odious alternative to ever popular saliva.)
