The Ohio Board of Higher Ed wants to encourage all public colleges and universities to ban tobacco for, amongst other reasons, to 'help both smokers and non-smokers.'
At this point it's only 'urging' campuses as opposed mandating bans but 'urging' today is only a short walk to 'coercing' tomorrow.

i lived on osu campus for 6 years. never went to school there. went to columbus state... but to ban 18+ year old ADULTS that pay good money for higher education is almost maniacal:/ that would piss me off!!!!

I love it lol. I think it is amazing, in Louisiana that they wanted to use tobacco taxes ( mainly cigarette taxes) to fund education and then they wanted to ban smoking in as many places as They can . So what happens if everyone quits smoking all tobacco.?

They (the Ohio Board of Higher Ed) may not have the power to do that, which is why they are encouraging it as opposed to something stronger.

Quite the turn-around from my days in college when there were at least 6 guys smoking pipes in the classroom with the prof.

And tre123 is right about what happens when tobacco taxes don't meet projections. Happens all the time everywhere. Quite amusing once you start drinking...........which I am.

jud: Do they, specifically, have the power? No, or else they would have just announced the ban instead of the 'urging' aspect. But you don't get on the board of regents without connections and influence. Of course, I'm playing the speculation game but it's not like there haven't seen similar situations.
For the record, I do hope that I am wrong.
