I never heard of Bari pipes before when I spied this unsmoked one on ebay for $50. I did some quick research and found everyone who had a Bari liked it, so I bit.
Just rec'd it today and I have to say I am super impressed. The briar is beautiful with some nice burl. Thick walls, perfectly drilled and after 2 smokes, it didn't get hot or gurgle. Count me as a happy camper.

Hey Six that's a great looking pipe!
I love how the stem mounts, and the colour play between the briar, nickel and the black (vulcanite?).
Glad she's a good smoker!

Great score. I've had a few Bari's and they are very well made, always perfectly drilled and smoke great. Yours is quite stylish -- never seen that model before.

Thanks a lot guys - very glad to hear that some of you own Bari's and like them.
I was really surprised by the quality of smoke from a new, $50 pipe. Pipedia says it is a Danish pipe company, but this one was made in Italy. Cannot find much info on the Bari but I did find this page:

The blogger visited the new owner of Bari back in 2003. Seems like a one man company, so I am surprised he is having them made in Italy. Perhaps he was were bought out by an Italian company and they kept the name?

Bari was founded by Viggo Nielsen (father of Kai and Jorgen). I think they're much better known in Europe where they compete with Stanwell in the high-quality, good value, machine-made market.

Very nice. I have a bari from when I dabbled in pipe smoking 10 years ago. May have to pull that one out of storage. Sweet.

I like you bought a Bari on Ebay. My pipe is a Lovett shape and smokes OK is a good value money and yes, the pipe's engineering is right on.

I was given a Bari bent brandy with a dark smooth bowl about 30 years ago by my late wife's aunt. It is a lovely

pipe and has held up like new, except of course, it gets better and better. It is almost spooky how little

it shows its age and wear. It has a nice big bowl and is impressively light weight. You won't regret this

purchase. These are mid-level pipes with high-level characteristics.

Thanks guys for all of your comments - they are making me feel even more confident in this purchase!

I didn't know they compete with Stanwells, but based on this one, I can believe it. Nice to know.

Well, that's the market they compete in. Whether they are comparable to Stanwell is a more subjective question. I think they're at least as good in terms of quality. If they were distributed more widely and aggressively, I think that would have a positive, snowball effect on their popularity and sales. But, it's not my company... I'm just happy to pick one up off of ebay for 50 bucks or less. Congrats, again, on your great score.

six, that is a great looking pipe, well done. Glad to hear you enjoy how it smokes, hell of a deal for 50.00. I love the classic look and the walls seem really nice and thick. I bet you would have a hard time heating that puppy up.
