That's cold. 35F in North Idaho tonight and that's too cold for me to enjoy a pipe. I remember back in '04 we saw -34F for a couple of days. Too cold for a cigarette even.
We were at -30F with 20ft snowdrifts back in '84-'85 with 4ft of snow on the ground. Other than the late '70s, that's the worst we've had in decades.

I live in a crazy part of Alaska. Sometimes 35, sometimes -35 (F). Worked in Prudhoe Bay, AK for 8 years though. -60 is not uncommon, record there was -128 in Jan. 77. Coulda cut glass with my nips most days in winter.

A balmy 3 here right now. Not so bad.

Done that! That's damned cold. On the Slope one worked a bit and sat in the truck a lot. But, I didn't live there, 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. I did Arctic survival training (3 days in a tent) in -50 F, that was an experience. I'm not thinking I'd want to live in such temps. And, the older I get the less tolerant I am of below zero temps, F or C.

My sympathies!

-15 here in Minneapolis right now, don't know what the wind chill is...

It's a comfortable 68 degrees deep in the snug of my home office, with a little bit of a breeze from the air purifier...

Last I remember it being -30 or better was in the mid 1990's. You had to go out and start your car in the parking lot at lunchtime or by the end of the day you might not be making it home, at least not when you planned anyways. Global warming? Back in the 60's and 70's there was more pollution being spewed into the air, but that's when I remember cold ass January's. I still have a low sided metal tray about 3' long 10" wide 8" tall that I used to put charcoal in to slide under the front of the car to thaw the engine block out when it was required.

C'mon, it's only -32 °C. Wind chill is a BS factor: it only matters if you're outside NAKED.

Finally we have real winter temperatures: this winter's been quite lame, really.
I agree with wind chill and "feels like" being BS, and I live in Edmonton. I wouldn't say you had to be naked for it to be meaningful, but people use it to exaggerate the temperature.

It's - 37°C tonight w/o windchill. That's cold enough. You've got this catch 22 if you run diesel. Probably shouldn't shut it off, can't buy it because the pumps don't work.

Good thing I built a heated insulated ventilated smoke room that doesn't leak smoke into the rest of the house. Ain't no wife convincing necessary. Smoke indoors all the time.

Oh, and another thing, if you work during the day and sleep at night, telling people the low is just academic. It's not like you're outside working.
