For anyone outside the US (where I believe they're still illegal), I've been experimenting with some tonquin beans. Even sticking one in a jar of tobacco has a significant effect. They're cheap, and so stinky that they stink out my entire kitchen even in the plastic bags (I have now decanted them to a jar). 17405836778833517202841466661694.jpg

Amazon sells them in the US (~$2/bean), as I just now discovered. I believe their legality here is "Banned in food, but they have non-edible uses like the expensive perfume worn by some legislators, so a complete ban would just be silly".

I have purchased tonquin beans via Amazon and infused them in bourbon and rum to use in blending/topping experiments to great effect. Very delicious aroma. But yes, keep them sealed in a glass jar, because if you can smell it through the baggie, you're losing the oils and letting it oxidize too quickly. Just treat them like you would your precious tobacco.
