The only thing I'd add is that ideally, the mason jars are bought as a pack. That way you have the cardboard box that they come in to store them all in. It makes them a lot easier to deal with. Oh, and you'll probably want to break up each tin into at least two jars, that way you can have one to smoke out of and 1+ for long term storage.

Agree with Shanez.
You can "age" in jars but do not open them unless you plan to smoke it. I keep mine in a cupboard and away from excess heat and sunlight. Don't reuse jars. They are properly sanitized direct from the box. Make sure the seal is tight and there is no loose tobacco interfering with the seal.

If your jarred tobacco gets dried out, you can re-hydrate easily. Just do not add water directly to the tobacco. Make a small 2" foil bowl, tear off a small piece of paper towel and fold it to about 3/4 x 3/4 and wet it. Squeeze just enough that it won't drip and put into foil bowl you made. Make a slight depression in the center of the pipeweed and put the bowl in the depression. Seal the jar and check after two days. If not re-humidified to your liking, repeat the dampening. Should not take more than three rounds until you are good for another year or three!

All good advice. I keep my tobaccos in the tin after opening until they reach a moisture level that is just a hair wetter than optimal for my preferences, then can. I don't have much of a cellar to speak of but it's nice to get 100 gram tins, so you can jar 2 ounces to age and have an ounce and a half or so to smoke now. Of course if I bought tins just to age I'd leave the tins sealed and unopened.

GL Pease writes a lot about aging and storing tobaccos in articles on this website and his own. Well worth a read.

Keeping the jars in the flats they originally come in seems to be the best way to store them. Perhaps make a wrap of duct tape around the flat to keep it solid.

No need for tape, just don't pull the shrink-wrap off. Cut an "x" in the top of the shrink-wrap large enough to pull out a couple or four jars.

I've noticed that the youtuber Muttonchops Piper has a nice rack of Ball canning jars. I'm curious as to how he labels them. Does anyone here watch him?

He made a video about making those labels I think. Try searching his videos. Seemed like a cool idea but I was too lazy to do it as he got a bit OCD about it and it seemed like a fair bit of work.

As for the jars I have reused mine for ages with no problems, especially for the same tobaccos.

I just haven't seen that one yet. I enjoy his videos.

Here is my modest "cellar". A Tupperware bin that I keep in my kitchen pantry. All my unopened tins are shrink wrapped in freezer bags (I thought I was smelling strong wiffs of Toby everytime I opened the bin, so I did this to see if they were the culprit) all others are in mason jars that I label with type and date of jarring. Most of what I buy is in bulk so mason jars are the majority of my stored tobacco. That's how I do it!
