Hello, my name is Anders and I'm new.

I've been thoroughly enjoying the forum as a lurker, but there was no reason not to join you so here I am. :)
A couple of years ago I smoked three nuns in a square tin, they're now in round tins and If I'm not mistaken the recipe has been altered? One notable difference, unless I'm imagining things, is the tin aroma. I think it has been described as be Prunes/figs/fermented fruit? I hope somebody know what I mean. The new round tins does not smell like that.
I found a similar smell when I tried Peter Heinrich's Special Curly which is nice....
Anyway, what makes the tobacco smell and taste like it does? Is it casing, the type of tobacco, some special process it goes through? Does anyone know of any other brands with a similar "profile"?
Anyway, happy to be here. :)

St. James woods by McClelland's, it's loaded with perique. Never tried the original 3 nuns or the new one, but St. james woods has that prune kind of smell.

Thank you for the warm welcome. :)

So it's all about perique? If it's a substantial amount of it in a blend it will smell pruny?

As an old Three Nuns smoker, I have to say I've found nothing that's close enough even be a kissing cousin, and that includes PH Special Curly. I added perique to it, and it still doesn't get there for me. HU Director's Cut has a little similarity, but is more burley-forward, and is bothe coin cut and broken flake, so it's not a consistent tasting smoke as the old Three Nuns. However, on it's own merits, I highly recommend Director's Cut, which is not available for sale in the US.
