Today, we finalized our plans for our big family vacation to Florida this summer. I immediately began thinking about what pipe tobacco would be good for the beach, or ocean environment. I think it should be something that blends with or compliments the salt air and the smell of the ocean, and any other sights and smells of the locale.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I would say that decision is up to you, after all you know your taste. I say picture yourself in the scene and go with whatever comes to mind. By the way what beach? I love it here in FL. I live in a laid back small town in the panhandle! :puffy: Oh yeah I almost forgot, I hope you all enjoy yourself!

I'd say go for something that burns slow or get a wind cover so you don't burn out your pipe. A flake would be nice but judge the wind on any particular day.

@oldjazzlover:
We're going to Port St. Joe, far away from the drunk teenagers and college kids. My wife and I are high school teachers, so we want none of that PC scene.

Well dearthair m pipa. My last trip to the beach w/pipe went somthing like this...Started out w/some GUILTY PLEASURE, and after watching those lil b'kinis for quite some time, I spotted PERFECTION, and thought outloud.."look at them SUNZA BITCHES", to which my bride heard and and when she asked, I had to say NUT-N-HONEY. And later back at the room, when I entered HELLSGATE, and couldnt get out for the remainder of our trip, I was left with BLUE BALLS. have a great time, and don't forget the sunscreen.

I should probably add that I'm not really planning on smoking at the beach, per se; rather on the back porch of the rental house for the most part. Even though the porch is screened in, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get a windscreen just in case. Thanks, papipeguy.
Anyone have any thoughts on Mac Baren Plumcake or 7 Seas?

Both are great smokes! From the looks of things here we will STILL be battling Gov Walker come summer vacation. I come from a very long of teachers and being the black sheep I went into cooking! LOL

Haven't had much of it in the last month or so, but just enjoyed a lunchtime bowl of 7 Seas Gold. Quite liked early on, and still do, but found it to be a bit too mild this time around. I've been smoking some heavier blends lately, English blends. This all being said, I think it will make a very nice warm weather smoke. In fact I'm looking forward to being out on my sailboat this summer with a few bowls of that. Which reminds me I need to get a few windcaps.
Enjoy the trip!

@Kevin (and anyone else in the know):

Has half the world made a run on the online tobacconists for Samuel Gawith's Navy Flake, or what? I can't find it anywhere.

You will have a hard time finding any blends from Samuel Gawith. People buy them up within minutes of being restocked.
As far as my tastes go; when it is really warm or hot out, I prefer Virginia or Virginia/Perique blends. When the temps are high, aromatics and Latakia sometimes seem to heavy on my palate.

@Bob:
Darn. The description and reviews sounded so nice, too. I did put in for Iwan Ries to email me when it's available, so we'll see how that goes.
So, I take it that Virginia/Periques blends are lighter than aros, etc.? I read some reviews on Dunhill De Luxe Navy Rolls, as suggested by Kevin, and it looks good in print. Since I've only recently begun exploring tobacco that isn't sold at Wal-Mart, I want to get into the good stuff that everybody raves about, but I'm not ready for anything strong. (A couple of years ago, I had some Peterson's Irish Oak that I thought was going tio kill me.) The DLNR is a VAPer and is described as Medium strength, and the fact that it has "navy" in the name seems to make it a candidate for vacation. Pardon my naivete, but I'm just trying to learn. I don't have a decent B&M anywhere near here, so everything I get comes from online stores, which makes it a little more expensive (but usually worth it) for me. That's why I try to scout it out before I buy it. Thanks.

Hey Puffintuff: My eyes and my dick are attracted to your beach view. Which beach do you frequent with your pipe? Looks like a great place for a guy to smoke a bowl.

@mjtannen, I took that pic at the Clearwater Boat Race last

year, probably not too far from Kevin's place. After getting on the beach,

I forgot all about the boats.
That pic was deleted by photobucket and their censorship crap.

Had to post it through imageshack.

You are a man who knows a feast when you see it. Delicious chic & dick dinner! Goes great with a good pipe afterwards.

Puffintuff: BTW...I posted a copy of your bikini clad "view" on another website I frequent. The Art of Manliness/Testosterone Group. The guys there and I are having lots of fun with it. The general consensus is that pipe smokers are ass men. We know a tight one when we see it. Then, if we approve, our eyes go north. The butt is certainly the qualifier. Thanks again for the great picture post.

I would take Penzance to the beach, but then I'd also take it to anywhere else in the world so that I'd have my ole buddy with me, and life would be good again. :puffy:

Thanks again for the great picture post.
Not a problem. Glad it could help you and the boys at the Testosterone Group..I think.
There seems to be more options in "Member Status" lately.

Update: I ended up taking Mac Baren Plumcake and Dunhill De Luxe Navy Rolls to Florida, but only smoked the Navy Rolls. Thanks, Kevin, for the recommendation, because it was an excellent choice. Our rental house had a screened porch and balcony and I spent several afternoons out there puffing away in bliss. It really was an added bonus to an already relaxing and fun vacation. I'm now adding DLNR to the list of my favorites. And it makes for a great hot weather tobacco, too.
