I just purchased a tin of 3 Oaks Syrian Blend. I've heard a lot of good reviews about it, I've also heard that syrian latakia is rare.. So I was wondering should I rip open the tin and smoke it right away or save it/ cellar it for a time that I can enjoy it more ( better weather/ while on holiday)

I'm probably just being way too indecisive but wasn't sure if this tobacco will still be around in a few months time. Thanks for the input! :puffy:

It's not so rare that it is unavailable. Just open and enjoy it. I honestly think too many of us get carried away with hoarding and ageing unnecessarily. The pleasure of the pipe is to light up and enjoy when the mood hits. My idea of a special occasion is when I have a chance to relax and have a bowl. I don't party with a delayed gratification group. I'm a firm believer in living large always.

We live life from day to day.

There's no set rules. Here today, gone tomorrow type thing.

Smoke your fill, save what you want.

mjtannen states it perfectly. he's a wise man.

It's my understanding that as latakia ages it gets more and more mellow.

I have some straight latakia that is very mellow.

So, I would suggest that you go ahead and fire it up, and enjoy it like it's meant to be.

Lawrence, how old is that straight Latakia? I was thinking of ordering a pound of latakia and storing it for later in life! Thoughts?
(sorry to highjack the thread!)

Tobacco like wine is a living thing - that is meant to be enjoyed in it's life span. Open the tin - smoke it and if you really love it - put some aside for later - knowing that the taste you may enjoy today will be totally different as it ages - and - you may not like it - aging doesn't necesarily mean better taste. Because - a. It will taste differently as it ages - some blends age better than others. b. your tastes may change by then. c. You may even - in ten years- hate the taste of Latakia (gasp - No...it can't be true!!!). Go For It & Enjoy!
