After I established two vacation homes for my wife, she starts planning international vacations… :::sigh::: so, we may be coming to your country soon. I’m sorry, ha. She has spent all Christmas break throwing river boat cruises, and different countries at me for approval. And, as well as being entrenched in this pipe hobby, I’ve been collecting whiskeys, bourbons, and Scotches. So, this got me to thinking… What liquors are imbibed upon in your country?

Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Brazil, France, China, India… What’s your spirit? Brandy, Tequilas, Vodkas, or some sort of fruit concoction made from a PGA?

What’s your brand? Local or Imported to you?

If it’s wine or beer, feel free to mention it. I will try your wines, but you can keep your beers. But, feel free to talk about it.

If you have the opportunity, try Pago de Carrovejas, we also have some good Spanish brandies. The Rioja and Ribera del Duero wines are excellent. This liqueur is also original from the island of Mallorca. Liqueur of sweet Herbs of Mallorca. Although Spain has a great variety of liqueurs, such as orujo, and the famous Pacharan.

If you happen to be in Ireland, you wont find a better whiskey than Writers Tear's in my opinion. Also Redbreast, Powers and some of the higher end Jameson bottles are amazing.

And I hear we do a pretty good stout.
Thank you,
We’ve already been to England and Scotland, so that wasn’t really on her radar for this trip, but I would love to do a coastal tour of Ireland and Scotland.
I would collect more Irish whiskey, as I really like the smoothness of it, but I keep getting drawn to the more charred oaky side.
I really like Slane. But, I wish Irish whiskey would hint more at the mash bill on the labels.

Thank you again, I will put those on my list.

For example, Luis Felipe Premium, Torres 20 years. Gran Duque de Alba, among many others, quality price. It is drunk in a special glass for brandy or cognac, and is perfect to accompany a good tobacco.
Thank you, I assume you drink it room temperature, neat.

The problem with my state ::;cough cough among many problems :::: is our selection of brandies and cognacs. Four brands is all that is imported here.
The Luis Felipe Premium I can order for a mere $400 with state taxes added in. I may have to wait till I visit Spain. It would be more fun to share a bottle with you in person. Spain and Denmark are high up on her list.

I think Spanish brandy is the only thing I've ever drunk where I got a hangover as I drank it....

I love it.

@JOHN72 do you guys have a whiskey, or grain based liquor there?
The most famous is the DYC. I believe it is made of barley malt and corn malt and aged in American oak barrels. I think you might like Pacharan liqueur, but it is not made from cereal. Pacharan is traditionally made by macerating sloes in aniseed. The sloe, known as arañón in Navarra, is the fruit of the Prunus spinosa shrub, which we usually call sloe. It belongs to the plum family but is much smaller in size, smaller than cherries. Pomace is a distillation of grapes. Originating in the traditional Spanish region of Galicia, and made from the solid residues of grapes, such as skins, seeds and stems, which are left after the pressing process for wine production.

Spain has a spectacular variety of wines, spirits and gastronomy. Galicia, Asturias, Seville, Toledo, Avila, Segovia, Vascongadas or wrongly called Vasco country. The Spanish wine cellars of El Bierzo, La Rioja, Jerez and its oloroso and brandy cellars. It would be an honor to share a glass of wine or spirits with you. I don't think I would need the translator, hahahahahahaha.

Seagrams 7 warm from a plastic handle. Oh wait. The People’s Republic of New Jersey is still a State.

Lovin this thread.

Gonna try some Writers Tears. The name alone has my attention.

Ireland? Take My Money.
Actually, it can be anywhere. Seagrams 7… believe it or not, I’ve not tried. Is this the “spirit” of your peoples?

We can just point and nod our heads a lot, ha ha.
My oldest daughter, is fluent in Spanish, but her Spanish has a lot of Mayan mixed in, as she learned from her restaurant staff. They are mostly Guatemalan.

In France of course a zillion excellent regional wines

Rather than Port we have Banyules a fortified wine.

There are other before and after meal wines as well as other liqueurs…to many to list or remember

Pastis is very common in the Mediterranean area before a meal…a strong ainse flavor. A bit of an acquired taste. Mixed with water and served in ice. Refreshing

If you want beer its best to buy imports. I dont know anyone who goes out of their way to buy French beer.

If you hit India, Old Monk run is the drink of choice. Most "import" liquors are actually made at that distillery and are crap in comparison with their international brands. You'll probably find Old Monk to be pretty bad as it's too sweet but you get used to it quickly. I actually began to enjoy it after a year.

Urrack is also a big thing but only the good stuff is available in Goa. It's supposed to give a result like being high and cure various illnesses which I can say from experience it doesn't. Makes you feel floaty really fast though. Look for the places that sell it homemade in water bottles. The best stuff is made from pistachio fruit.

Usually, malt whiskies from Scotland, although I've been buying English (Cotswold) lately because it is very good.

However, since Christmas Day, I've been having a glass or two of port from a bottle of Taylor's 20 year old tawney, smooth and sweet.
