It's briar uperepik w/o heavy staining, actually it's what the maker calls contrast stain, I achieved similar results with gun stocks when I did restoration work using two different stains to bring out the heartwood and the grain.
What is "briar uperepik"? I googled it and got no hits other than a member on this board. Whatever, the grains stellar, better than the grain on a Michael Parks mirror-finish, which had thought best.
Beautiful stain that makes the bird's eye grain seem three dimensional, fishnbanjo! Was that an anniversary gift? I love the classic dublin shape, too; enjoy smoking that pipe with some delicious and smooth flakes! Happy smoking fishnbanjo.
