Steve Laug discovered another weird bit of tobacciana.

It looks like a normal apple with a built in carrying slot of one of those "forever matches." Not really all that innovative, IMO, especially when compared to the other pipes in the patent diagrams.
He mentions in the blog that they never really became popular, but this one was obviously well loved and smoked often, with the cake and the bang-ups on the rim. Maybe the price, distribution just never really got off the ground well. But, how often do we pipe smokers end up telling ourselves that carrying a lighter is just... too much?

They do have that steampunk look to them. Great for smoking while wearing a Mad Hatter hat and space goggles. ::

It does have a very interesting shape to it.
