I am new to pipes but am planning to smoke when I run errands or visit friends.

So I want to have small amounts of tobacco on me while keeping it fresh.

Pelican cases are big so I was thinking waterproof CR123 battery cases might be good and cheap.
Then I found Tightvac.com which seems good because it actually applies a vacuum seal.

Their small Spacevac or Spicevac might be the size I need to make a small travel kit.

What bad could happen by having a small vacuum on tobacco or is it a sound idea?

Anyone using these already?

A forum search had no results.

Another question.

I assume Tightvac's capacities are for liquid volume, but tobacco goes by weight.

What size Tightvac are you using to store a 1oz bag of loose tobacco?

I want to be able to buy a 1oz pouch of loose tobacco, and put it in a Tightvac at home long term.

Then use a smaller size for travelling.

Mylar ziploc bags are inexpensive and effective for keeping baccy from drying out. See the Box Pass thread for more info.

I have a large TV5 Tightvac container that has been my cigar humidor for years. It works very well. I just put one of those little gel humidor packs in and don't worry about whatever cigars I store in it. I assume it would be excellent for pipe tobacco.
